So who is actually 'doing' the Neighbourhood Plan for Poringland? It is a shared effort, led by the Parish Council and the Neighbourhood Plan Committee, with input from a local planning consultancy Parker Planning Services - but primarily it is shaped by the local community.
Below are some potted profiles of the Committee members - more profiles are being added, so watch this space. If you have a question you'd like to put to the committee, you can email the project manager on [email protected]

We've lived in Poringland since 1982 when I came here to teach at Framingham Earl High School. Six years later I was invited to join Poringland Parish Council and have served on it for the thirty years since. We like living in Poringland because we can follow our activities in Beekeeping, boating and enjoying the seaside and country. There is lots for us to do - the Cinema, Buena Vista Social Club, walking group for us so there is not a lot of time to get bored.
My favourite thing about living here is to hear about the progress and success of my former pupils. i feel 'at home' here

I’m Norfolk born and bred and have lived, at various locations, within about 6 miles of Norwich for almost all my life. I moved to Poringland a couple of years ago, attracted by the wide range local facilities, the village feel and good access to Norwich and the countryside. Living here has been even better than we anticipated. As Vice Chairman of the Neighbourhood Plan Committee, and being involved with the parish council, it has been brilliant for getting to know about the village and for meeting lots of local people.I retired from Norfolk County Council just over five years ago. I love being able to enjoy everything locally, getting out walking and cycling whenever I can. We also have good access to the main road network to keep up with my children and grandchildren who live in the south of England.

I have lived in the village since 2001, however it's only since starting this role with the Parish Council in October 2017 that I've really felt part of the local community, which has been quite an eye opener! I am enjoying learning about how to pull together a neighbourhood plan, and am looking forward to seeing the results in the next year! I like where i live (St Marys Road) because the ice cream van stops outside my house in the summer. I also like listening to the sounds of village life - the children playing outside at the Primary School, the church bells ringing and even the sound of the local football team giving it their all on a Sunday morning .

I’ve lived in Poringland since 2016, having moved from Hampshire, previously having lived in Shipdham for 12 years. I love the people and the locality with its proximity to Norwich, but also find the local amenities are all I need. My favourite place around Poringland is being able to visit and use the Poringland Conservation and Fishing Lakes.

I was born in industrial South Wales but spent most of my working life abroad from Saudi Arabia to Nigeria and Qatar to Holland. For much of that time my home base, and home for his wife and children, was Thorpe St Andrew. I retired initially to Thorpe and then down-sized to Poringland, free from the hassle of the shipping and construction industry only to find hold ups on the Street as people like me dug it up phase by phase. Now I enjoy being part of this place, feeling very lucky to live in such peace and with such an agreeable band of people.

I’ve lived in Poringland since: 2014, I didn’t know anything about Poringland when I first moved here but something about the village got my attention!
I like living here because Poringland has a strong community feel, I love living so close to the city but so close to countryside as well
My favourite place/thing to do in/around Poringland? The village has some great pubs, walks and is such easy access to Norwich.

I moved from Hellesdon into Poringland in 1998 and have never regretted the move. The attraction was its rural nature, whilst being close to the City and not too far away from the James Padget Hospital where I worked. I was appointed to the Parish Council in 1999, and in 2003 I Chaired the Steering Committee for the Parish Plan for The Five, set up by the Parish Councils of Caistor St Edmund, Framingham Earl, Framingham Pigot, Poringland and Stoke Holy Cross. Now retired from employed work, I am able to appreciate the ever increasing community facilities to the benefit of the current and future community members. I continue to assist the community through the provision of the Good Neighbours Scheme and the editions of The 5+ Community News.

I was born in Portsmouth, served 12 years in the Royal Navy and nearly 30 years in the Hampshire Constabulary, mainly as a detective. I retired in 1999 and moved to Norfolk, my wife’s home county. During my police service I was also a founding Chair of a Building Preservation Trust and Chair of a Civic Trust, as well as being a Tree Warden under the Tree Council scheme. Since living in Norfolk, I have resided in Wymondham and then Swainsthorpe, where I was Chair of the Parish Council. My wife and I moved to Poringland in 2012 and live on a new development. We like this village as it has good access into Norwich, whilst having good local services and easy walks into the surrounding countryside. Since moving in, we have discovered it has a good sense of identity and is a vibrant village with many groups and activities. I am the Parish Tree Warden and a founding member of the village Men’s Shed. I greatly enjoy being on the Broads as a skipper of the Norfolk Wherry Albion. I am keen that the village remains cohesive and keeps its semi-rural identity, whilst ensuring that new development is of a good quality and enhances what is here already. Whilst new development should benefit people, I also believe that it should be designed with green spaces sympathetic to wildlife.
