From there, we are able to work in the footpath to complete the connections into Springfields.
Following this, we need to connect Elvins Garage, however this work will also take place in the footpath, and the Oak Avenue connection which may require traffic lights. Oak Avenue had to be completed last as there is no isolation valve, therefore the whole of the old water main will have to be turned off when we do that connection.
We therefore are well on track to complete the major works by the 14th December as anticipated.
Following this, after Christmas, we will have some minor decommissioning works to complete in the area, which involves removal of manholes and reinstating the road surface where manholes have been removed.
These works will move very quickly and we only expect minimal traffic disruption as we will use stop and go boards off peak wherever possible. Traffic lights may be required for some disconnections but these will only be in place for very short periods. I will share more information on what this will involve and exactly where we will be working as soon as I have it.
We will reinstate the road surface where we have dug down, in agreement with the highways authority. We will not reinstate the full width of the road surface as this is not our obligation. On completion of the major works, our reinstatement manager will walk the full length of the scheme with the Highways inspector to agree any additional remedial works.
The site manager is out visiting schools and businesses affected by our next section of work today. We will be completing a connection in The Footpath on Tuesday 28 November.
In response to a query raised about the Santa Run on 3rd December, our site manager has left a message for the organiser, Tal Williams, to discuss this and ensure that we can keep access clear. We will support this event by ensuring that we do not obstruct it.
