Poringland Parish Council is made up of 11 volunteers who give up their time to serve the residents of Poringland. These volunteers meet every 2nd Wednesday of the month to discuss a variety of topics that are relevant to the residents of Poringland. The Parish Council is responsible for providing various facilities and services to the community, including: Poringland Community Centre and Cafe, Parks and Play Areas, Cemetery, Public Open Spaces, 32 Acres of Community Land, Community Woodlands, Bus Shelters, and Bins.

Historically, Poringland was known as both East Poringland and Great Poringland and was part of the ancient Hundred of Henstead. The name “Poringland” is believed to derive from “Poor spring land,” reflecting the area’s soil quality.
